Infertility

Infertility can be a challenging and emotionally taxing journey for individuals and couples striving to conceive. At Planned Parenthood Zambia, we offer compassionate support and comprehensive solutions to help navigate the complexities of infertility and work towards building the family you desire.

What is Infertility?

Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after one year of regular, unprotected intercourse for individuals under 35 years old, or six months for individuals over 35. It can affect both men and women and may be caused by a variety of factors, including:

  • Ovulation Disorders: Irregular or absent ovulation in women, which can be caused by hormonal imbalances, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), or thyroid disorders.
  • Sperm Disorders: Low sperm count, poor sperm motility, or abnormal sperm morphology in men, which can impact fertility.
  • Fallopian Tube Blockages: Obstruction or damage to the fallopian tubes, preventing the sperm from reaching the egg or the fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus.
  • Uterine or Cervical Issues: Structural abnormalities in the uterus or cervix, such as fibroids or cervical stenosis, that may interfere with conception or implantation.
  • Age: Advanced maternal or paternal age can decrease fertility due to declining egg or sperm quality.
