Contraceptives

At Planned Parenthood Zambia, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive contraceptive services to empower individuals in taking control of their sexual and reproductive health. Our Contraceptives Services page offers a wealth of information on various contraceptive methods tailored to meet your unique needs and preferences.

Short Acting Reversible Contraceptives (SARC)

Short Acting Reversible Contraceptives (SARC) offer flexibility and convenience for those seeking temporary contraception solutions. Our range of SARC methods include:

  • Birth Control Pills: Daily oral contraceptives containing hormones to prevent pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation.
  • Contraceptive Patch: A transdermal patch releasing hormones to prevent pregnancy when applied to the skin.
  • Contraceptive Injection: A progestin shot administered every few months to prevent ovulation and thicken cervical mucus.
  • Contraceptive Ring: A hormonal ring inserted into the vagina, releasing hormones to prevent pregnancy.

Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC)

Our Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC) provide highly effective, long-term contraception with minimal maintenance. Options include:

  • Intrauterine Devices (IUDs): Small devices inserted into the uterus, available in hormonal and non-hormonal varieties, offering protection for several years.
  • Contraceptive Implant: A small rod placed under the skin of the upper arm, releasing hormones to prevent pregnancy for several years.

Barrier Methods

Barrier methods create physical barriers to prevent sperm from reaching the egg. Our selection includes:

  • Male Condoms: Sheaths worn over the penis to collect semen and prevent its entry into the vagina.
  • Female Condoms: Polyurethane sheaths inserted into the vagina to block sperm.
  • Diaphragm: A flexible dome inserted into the vagina to cover the cervix and block sperm entry.

Hormonal and Non-Hormonal Intrauterine Devices (IUDs)

Our Hormonal and Non-Hormonal Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) offer effective, hassle-free contraception:

  • Hormonal IUDs: Release progestin to prevent ovulation and thicken cervical mucus, lasting several years.
  • Non-Hormonal IUDs: Copper IUDs create an environment hostile to sperm, preventing fertilization.
